Privacy notice
This site holds very little about you, and this page says exactly what. Reading a guide gives us nothing — there is no account, no sign-up, no analytics and no advertising tracking. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to send when you write in, and this notice explains what we do with it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
The short version
This whole page in five lines
- Every guide here can be read without giving us anything at all.
- No accounts, no paywall and no online payment, so we never ask for a password or a card number.
- No analytics, no advertising tracking, one plain cookie.
- The only personal information we hold is what you put in the contact form, an email or a call. We use it to answer you, keep it 24 months, then delete it.
- Nothing is sold, rented or traded, and no computer decides anything about you.
Who is responsible
Thelmoros is an independent publisher of free reading guides to Greek mythology, working from Kelburn in Wellington and publishing at bridgettemorrissey.com since 2017. In the language of the Privacy Act 2020 we are the agency that collects and holds the information described below, and the thirteen information privacy principles in that Act are the rules we work to.

What we collect, and why
We collect personal information in one situation only: when you contact us, through the form on the contact page, by email or by phone. It comes directly from you, which is how the Act prefers it. We do not buy lists or obtain reader details from anyone else.

That is the whole list. We do not ask for a date of birth, a home address, a school roll, a student’s details, health or financial information or any identification, and we would rather you did not send them. Keep anything sensitive out of the form in particular: it is a plain web form, and the details you type are carried in the address of the confirmation page, so they can end up in the browser history of the machine you used. On a shared school or library computer, that matters.
What we do not collect
Worth being explicit, because many sites say the opposite at length. There are no user accounts, logins or passwords here, and no online payment, so we never see card or bank details. There is no mailing list, so writing to us subscribes you to nothing. There is no analytics package — no page-view counter, no heatmap, no session recorder, no tag manager — and no advertising, remarketing or social network tags. We do not profile readers, do not try to recognise you across visits or devices, and do not sell, rent or pass reader information to anyone for their own purposes.
Nothing here is decided automatically: every reply is written by a person on the editorial team who has read what you wrote. One honest caveat, though. Like every website, this one is delivered by a web server that writes an ordinary log line for each file it sends — the requesting IP address, the time, the file, the browser’s user-agent string — so that faults and abuse can be investigated. Those logs are kept for 30 days and then overwritten, are never joined to enquiry correspondence, and are not turned into visitor statistics. They are plumbing, not measurement, and a notice that pretended they did not exist would not be telling you the truth.
How long we keep it, and where it sits
Enquiry correspondence is kept for 24 months from the last message in the exchange, and is then deleted. Two years is not arbitrary: teachers and librarians who ask for a printed classroom set tend to come back on a school-year cycle, and seeing what we sent last time saves everyone repeating themselves. After that the usefulness is gone and the risk is not. You need not wait — ask us to delete an exchange earlier and we will, unless it is still open in front of us.
Correspondence is read and stored in Wellington, in a mailbox only editorial team members can open, each with an individual account and two-step verification. The website itself is hosted on a server in the United States, so page requests and the server logs above are handled there. Information privacy principle 12 requires us to be satisfied that information sent overseas is protected comparably to New Zealand law; our hosting agreement requires the provider to hold it securely, act only on our instructions and report any breach promptly. If a breach did occur and was likely to cause serious harm, we would notify the people affected and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, as the Act requires.
Who else can see it
In practice, nobody outside the small editorial team. Three narrow exceptions apply:
- Our email and hosting providers hold the information as a technical necessity, under contract, and may not use it for their own purposes.
- If you ask us to arrange a reading session or a printed classroom set, we use only the details needed, and only with the people you asked us to deal with.
- If the law compels disclosure — a court order, or a lawful request we cannot refuse — we comply, and we tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.
Advertisers, data brokers and analytics companies are not on that list.
Cookies and fonts
This site sets exactly one cookie, thelmoros_cookie_pref. It lasts 180 days, is written only when you press a button on the cookie message, and stores a single word recording which button you pressed. It holds no name and no identifier, and there are no analytics, advertising or third-party cookies here at all. The two typefaces are requested from fonts.bunny.net, a font host; that request reveals your IP address to it, as a request to any server does, but it sets no cookies and sends us nothing back. Access and correction
Under information privacy principles 6 and 7 you may ask whether we hold personal information about you, ask for a copy, and ask us to correct anything wrong. Email privacy@bridgettemorrissey.com with enough detail to find the exchange — roughly when you wrote, and the address you wrote from. We will normally ask you to reply from that same address, a light way of confirming the request is yours. We answer within 20 working days, as the Act requires, at no charge.
If we correct something, we make the correction and note it. If we disagree that a correction is needed, you may ask us to attach a statement of the correction you sought, and we will attach it so anyone reading the record later sees both. The Act gives no general right of erasure of the European kind, but we will delete enquiry correspondence on request anyway, because there is no reason for us to hold it.
Complaints
If you think we have mishandled your information, tell us first at privacy@bridgettemorrissey.com. Most problems are an oversight, and we would rather fix ours than defend them. If our answer does not satisfy you, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, the independent body that handles privacy complaints in New Zealand. Its process is free and is described at privacy.org.nz. The Commissioner will generally expect you to have raised the matter with us first.
Changes to this notice
We update this notice when what we actually do changes — not on a schedule, and never retrospectively. The date at the top is the date of the current version, and any change to what we collect or how long we keep it will be stated plainly. Questions are welcome at privacy@bridgettemorrissey.com.
